Athletic Boosters are reaching their fundraising goals!

The Athletic Boosters would like to thank everyone for the help they have given for their fundraising efforts to save Douglas High School Sports. With the incredibly generous gift received from GBI they have reached the $60,000 mark. Although fall sports have been saved, there is still a lot of work to be done to reach their yearly goal of $95,000. Look for more fundraising updates from Savemdouglas@gmail.com or on the Boosters Website.

Fundraising is underway for saving the
Music and Athletic Activities!

Here are some events that are happening that will help keep the music and sports programs alive! If you have further questions regarding any of the events shown, please contact either the band or athletic boosters.

Band Boosters is sponsoring a Luau Dance for students in grades 6-8. This will be a great way for the kids to finish off the year, and raise some money for the music program!  The dance will be held outside at the high school on June 12.

They also are planning an adults only Summer Concert to be held at the Sokol Club in Douglas on July 18 featuring "Harkness Road".  Tickets are $20, which also includes a spaghetti supper. Tickets are available at the Music Awards Night on June 11 @DHS, the Douglas Farmer's Market Lemonade Stand on June 27. You may also email the Band Boosters by clicking HERE.

Athletic Boosters are asking that any time you shop at amazon.com you use the fundraising link for smile.amazon that is featured on their website.  By using this link, a portion of the sale is donated by Amazon back to the Athletic Boosters. This is an easy way to raise  money - especially with all the summer reading books students need to purchase! Parents who are looking for a great book for the beach or poolside, please consider shopping at smile.amazon and helping out the athletic boosters.

There are also a few events happening - on June 20 at the Habitat for Sports in Uxbridge there will be a Dodgeball Tournament at 5pm. A soccer clinic is being planned for August and this summer there also will be "Tuesdays at the Track" which will feature running races, jumping and throwing events for ages 2 and up! This will be a fun way to keep active over the summer, while getting together with friends for a great cause.  Please check out www.douglasathleticboosters.org for more information.

Remember to stay informed, please contact savemdouglas@gmail.com

Thank you for supporting these organizations and our kids!

Save Douglas Activities thanks Sunrise of Lynnfield for their thoughts and generosity

This letter was shared by high school principal, Kevin Maines.

Hello, Mr. Maines.
My name is Sherene Abu-Hijleh and I am the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator of Sunrise of Lynnfield, an Assisted Living Facility in Lynnfield, MA.
I came across your story of financial woes one evening while I was watching the Fox25 News. After watching the story, it is my understanding that the Douglas Public School System is forced to cut all extra curricular activities, all sports, and several teacher layoffs.
Hearing this story hits home for us as several of our residents were teachers. Many played sports, an instrument, painters, etc. I myself played athletics all throughout my middle and high school years and am also a coach. Hearing this is devastating to my ears!
The residents here have decided to host a Yard Sale to try and raise money for your School System. We hosted our first sale, which consisted solely of clothing and accessories, earlier this month (May 8) and have raised over $200 on items that were priced no more than $5!
But that’s not all! We have decided to host another yard sale, this one consisting of everything from clothing to furniture, on June 13 from 10:00 – 1:00 p.m., to try and raise more funds for your School System.
We would love it if any of your students would like to come down and join us on this day. Perhaps having a few of your students explain the reason behind our sale might gain more money for the cause! I know it may be a bit of a ways away, but we would love to have you!

I have enclosed a few photos from our first yard sale.

On Tuesday May 19th at 6:30 pm in the HS Auditorium the Athletic Boosters will be holding a meeting to vote on a final proposal for fees for the 2015-16 athletic year.  All parents/ guardians of a potential DHS student JV or Varsity athlete are highly encouraged to attend and vote on the proposals listed below.

You do not need to be an active member of the Athletic Booster Organization to vote.

Please plan on attending this very important meeting!

Option #1 - Fully funded with option to decrease 2nd and 3rd sport participation fees.
Each student Athlete would be required to pay a $300 Athletic Fee to the "Town of Douglas" and a $300 donation to the "Douglas High School Athletic Booster Club" for the restoration of Douglas High School Sports.  The $300 donation to the “Douglas High Athletic Booster Club” can be reduced for second or third season Athletes as Fundraising and Matching funds become realized.
We the “Douglas High Athletic Booster Club” are in need of a very short-term influx of cash to show to the High School Administration and School Committee that there are funds available to guarantee the restoration of High School Sports for all seasons.
This option sets the bar high and can be reduced over the school term with Student Athletes’ and their Family’s fundraising.

Option #2  Fully funded with no options to decrease fees.
The student athlete fee would be $600 per player per sport with no cap. This fee would cover ALL expenses for all teams for the 2015-2016 athletic year with no fundraising needed.

Option 3  Partial funded with fundraising requirements of $94,000 ($300 Student fee no contributions to Boosters)
Fall: $77,564 +1/2 AD salary ($6250) =$83,814
